In the northern frontiers of India, the new state of Uttarakhand is well known. Most part of it is mountainous, inhabited by both the Hindus and Muslims. In the state a distt. known as Haridwar is regarded by the Hindus as a very sacred place. In the main city of Haridwar, the Muslims are not allowed to live, purchase a land or build a mosque. But it in suburbs, there are several towns considerable number. These towns were, initially, inhabited along the bands of the river during the British rule. From the religious aspect, thisarea has been very backward. Un Islamic customs and practices have been prevailing among the Muslims.
